Wow....I Baked....And It Was Edible....And NICE!!!!

You know there is always one thing you can't do? No matter how often you try, how hard you try, how much you follow instructions to the letter....it just never works?
Well, that's me in the kitchen.
It just never goes right.  Ever. EVER....well....

Yeah - that's my limit.  Toast.  With peanut butter. Or cheese and ham??
I'm serious!

But - my mum is on a mission.  She is determined that i CAN cook.  If I'm honest, the knowledge is in here rattling around in my head, i just can't seem to apply it.  I have to also attribute a lot of it to my health - my memory is terrible with M.E and other issues so its a bit of a hazard leaving me in the kitchen alone, so it's not just that i CAN'T...it's more a fact that if i try, i need to have someone with me or i could cause damage to the kitchen...the things in it...including me.....!... And if I'm blunt - my ex destroyed confidence in everything i did and this was one of them.  So .....into the kitchen my mum and i went....Armed with the heaviest cookbook we have, the Good Housekeeping Cookbook.

This isn't a recipe kinda post...more a.....

This was the ominous (to me!) task i faced...

Remember, total amateur here - my mother, however is total Pro - but apart from the helping with the heavy stuff and the hot bits that i forgot - left me to make rookie errors that i needed to make to remember for the future (make sense!!?)

So, lined up ingredients....

Rookie error number one - Yes i had the ingredients OUT - but i didn't pre-measure them *d'oh*

Next step...

Mum stirred the butter and chocolate while i dealt with the (unmeasured) dry ingredients...

Rookie error number two - should have mixed the dry ingredients BEFORE mixing the chocolate!!! I had to rush through the dry mixing, and because of that, i didn't sieve them - and had to then sieve all of them together into the melted chocolate after.....
Rookie error number three was also done here - never to mix wet ingredients with dry - i added vanilla extract to the dry mix before adding it the melted chocolate

SO! Anyway....mix in the eggs.....

Come on....even you have to admit this is looking good now...!!! VERY chocolatey!! Instead of pecans we added hazelnuts though, and it was a very good call!!

And sorry, i don't care how old you are - THIS is one of the best bits of baking.....be it the spoon, spatula or bowl.....

Or maybe that's just the big kid in me still!!

In it goes for just over an hour....

So......you're wondering....did it come out OK? Did i burn it?? Was it horrible? Did i drop it out the oven!!?? Well...

It came out GREAT!!! But oh wow - even looking at it put the extra pounds on you, but seriously - so so tasty!!!!
As its just the two of us, we froze half of it - it's so rich and heavy, but so yummy.

So yep. I baked....with help, yep.  But it came out...edible...and actually nice!!

I did say it wasn't going to be a recipe post....more of a....

Any you wanna share with me, id love to read them....theres not enough "yay me!" posts around!!

And of course to say thank you to my ever patient mother!!!
