Twelve. Twelve of the deadliest beasts ever forged in the fires of hell have escaped onto our plane, and they want nothing more than to rip out the jugular of Charley Davidson and serve her lifeless, mangled body to Satan for dinner. So there’s that. But Charley has more on her plate than a mob of testy hellhounds. For one thing, her father has disappeared, and the more she retraces his last steps, the more she learns he was conducting an investigation of his own, one that has Charley questioning everything she’s ever known about him. Add to that an ex-BFF who is haunting her night and day, a rash of suicides that has authorities baffled, and a drop-dead sexy fiancé who has attracted the attentions of a local celebrity, and Charley is not having the best week of her life.
A tad north of hell, a hop, skip, and a jump past the realm of eternity, is a little place called Earth, and Charley Davidson, grim reaper extraordinaire, is determined to do everything in her power to protect it.
Another great installment from Ms Jones!
I have to admit, that i did fear the sizzling attraction between Charley and Reyes would disappear once they got together, but woah, was i wrong - its still there, and it just makes you want Reyes all the more - the ultimate bad boy with the soft heart!
So, two are becoming three with the one on the way to be the one to change the world and be either the best thing ever, or...not. Reyes is extremely protective of Charley, whereas Charley does seem to not realise how at risk she is - especially from the Twelve - hounds of hell who are virtually indestructible. I can understand Reyes frustration with her at times!
I understand also, that Charley has always been very independant and loves her job with Cookie and tries to continue to do that job, and ducking and diving to stay alive while carrying this little important Beep....not good!
And we get another interesting little tidbit of Mr Wong.....im looking forward to finding out exactly who he is...i think that will be a surprise, and im not sure which way itll be - good or bad!
Charley is finally getting to grips with some of her true powers as the reaper, which she finds alarmingly easy to find and control within a short time period. But it saves her neck as well as Reyes and Osh (who for an unknown reason Reyes doesnt like, and wasnt sharing!).
There are a couple of quirks that can make you wonder "why"...like why did Charley keep calling Reyes "affianced"? Personally ive never heard that word and it was bizarre!! But i put that down to Charley being Charley and her quirkiness!
Like all her other books though, it does flow, and as always i thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Im starting to wonder now, how much more to the story it has left and thats going to leave me with a huge gap in my Series To Read!
But for now, Eighth Grave is out and ready to be read, and is all ready and waiting!
