Chloe Carpenter isn't like other women. She can communicate with animals. A gift she unwrapped following one of her frequent dances with death.

In her otherwise wacky life, she's finally found a semblance of sanity working at the Plum Beach Wildlife Park, where her unique talents can make life or death differences for the animals in her care. That semblance is shattered when a new veterinarian roars into the park in his spiffed up sports car and sets his golden gaze on her. If she had her way, he'd roar right back out.

Problem: He's her new coworker and he's saved her life twice - in the past twenty-four hours.

Zane Marshall, Enforcer for the Pacific Pack of purebred werewolves, has a job to do - figure out who or what is mutilating the young men of Plum Beach.

With orders to find the woman who talks to animals, he accepts a position working alongside the fiery Chloe Carpenter, a female who ignites his interest far more than he ever expected. Remarkably, she's the one elusive female with potential to bring meaning and passion to his empty existence.

Problem: She despises him.

Together, they're forced to unravel a mystery of supernatural proportions, a murderous mystery with eternal implications for everyone. In the process, they discover opposites really do attract.

Major Problem: Zane is pledged to another woman, and she'll do anything to keep him from Chloe.

Like most authors, Carol Van Atta is no stranger to the written word. She penned a short novel at age 12 (somewhat frightening illustrations included, and lots of bunnies were involved), and had a creative writing piece published in her high school newspaper (about David Bowie's Diamond Dogs LP). Yes, she's an ex-80's chick.

Devouring books from numerous genres, Carol developed a deep thirst/hunger for more reading material, and could almost always be found with her nose in a book.

She has contributed to several popular inspirational anthologies and devotional books, and lives in the rainy wetland of Oregon with a terrifying teen (another in college) and a small zoo of animals. She is taking an undetermined hiatus away from inspirational writing to delve into her darker side. (Though you can check out her latest spiritual suspense novel, Soul Defenders). It is rumored that this genre-jumping occurred after Carol discovered too suspicious red marks on her neck, and experienced an unquenchable urge to howl at the moon.

Book ONE

Ok, it has to be said, i think i loved this book from the start!  Books that start great normally end up being great, and this was.  I totally enjoyed it!

Chloe is our female for the books journey.  She has a special "gift" (or pain in the ass- depending what day it is!).  She works at the local wildlife farm, where she uses her gift - she can talk to animals.  Yup, you read right - she can talk telepathically to them, which is a great asset for the job - she can ask why they're agitated, what the pains are, what they can see.
Which when a series of murders at Plum Beach start to occur and the animals get spooked.

Chloe are suddenly given a partner to work with at the zoo, which she REALLY doesn't want.  Dr Zane Marshal is one hunk of a fella, and she is instantly attracted to him, but refuses to give in to it.  Suddenly she hears a thought - a thought about her - an looks to Zane who frowns....and suddenly she can feel barriers slamming down.

She eventually accepts Zane but when out for a drink one night, she can sense 4 animals/creatures outside the bar.  Zane tells her to stay in the bar an he goes out......but Chloe doesn't stay in the bar, and comes out to see 5 wolfmen fighting viciously.  Puzzled, she stares...the one left looks are her...and runs.

Oh my the floodgates open as she discovers Zane is a werewolf....actually taking it quite well, she asks about other bump in the nights to be told they're real....

The murders need to be solved, and Zane and Chloe both believe the woman pledged to marry Zane when they were pups is involved with them.....
Zane taking advantage of Chloe's inebriated state marries her in Vegas in a shotgun wedding, claiming he took her virginity and Chloe is horrified.  Zane has had a mark appear that only shows when their true mate is met.  It appeared with Chloe, and Zane needed to make her his to protect her. An ancient Vampire has his eyes and teeth already on her.  Jazmine too is eager for Chloe's blood.
Chloe however is mortified that she lost her virginity on her WEDDING night, she refuses to speak to Zane.....

Oh, so many things happen that make this book just a brilliant read.... i fear if i carry on with each individual event ill be writing an essay...

Needless to say, i LOVED this book, i loved the way it was written, i loved the characters and looking forward to the rest of the series....totally recommended if you're a big fan of paranormal romance/mystery!

Book TWO

Carrying on nicely from "I Kissed A Dog".  Straight into the story where Chloe is in jail due to a corrupt hybrid supernatural.
He's stripped her of all her gifts so she cant scream for help, telepath messages or anything.
As she dreamt one night, she woke her wolf.  First she panics, if the corrupt cop finds her like this it would be bad news...but she remembers Zanes abilities to do things while in this form.
She manages to break out through the window using those gifts and runs quickly across the road.  Another handy gift is her invisibility ability which she uses to watch the jail house - where Zane, the two M's have turned up.  Also her best friend Melanie - who is the main character of this book.

Chloe is teleported by the not so nice vamp that wants her, Valamir to somewhere else, she still cant talk to Zane...

The pack searches for Chloe, while Melanie is filled in with details.  She is about to go into a bad situation when Alcuin, the good vamp, teleports her away....Melanie is taken with Alcuin straight away....and the feeling is way more than mutual.  Their relationship builds as quick as Zane and Chloe's did!

Things yet again are going wrong, fallen angels, good angels, warlocks, betrayals again....stand offs....ancient relics being goes on and its another brilliant read!

All the characters we met in the first book are still very much involved in this book too, and slowly adding more allies....and more enemies....

Again, really i could write an essay to tell you what events are happening, but again such a well written book with twists and turns and revelations...i hope theres more to this series, and when it does, ill be picking it up!!
