Vampires In America #1
Raphael

Malibu, California-home to rock-and-roll gods and movie stars, the beautiful, the rich . . . and vampires.

Powerful and charismatic, Raphael is a Vampire Lord, one of the few who hold the power of life and death over every vampire in existence. Thousands call him Master and have pledged absolute loyalty on their very lives. But when, in a brazen and deadly daylight attack, a gang of human killers kidnaps the one female vampire he'd give his life for, Raphael turns to a human investigator to find his enemies before it's too late.

Cynthia Leighton is smart, tough and sexy, a private investigator and former cop who's tired of spying on cheating spouses and digging out old bank accounts. When Raphael asks for her help in tracking down the kidnappers, Cyn's happy to accept. But she soon realizes her greatest danger comes not from the humans, but from Raphael himself.

Battling Russian mobsters and treacherous vampires, and betrayed by those they trusted, Cyn and Raphael find themselves fighting for their lives while caught up in a passion of blood and violence that is destined to destroy them both

i think I'm going to like this series.

This book follows "lord Raphael", Vampire and rules a massive expance of land and buisness (see map above).
We begin the story with a kidnapping of a vampire of Raphaels, and private investigator Cynthia is hired to help find Alexandra, the kidnapped.

Yes, its a vampire story. Theres baddies, goodies, romance, action and its a brilliant read!

After reading about shifters for a while, i fancied going back to vamps and I'm glad i picked this series up.

The ending isn't as you expect....its left wide open for the next book and even then, the uncertainty is still there....

Cynthia is human, used to be in the LAPD but turned PI.  She is aware of the vampire society - a secret that is known but rarely spoke about- as if not speaking about it means they don't exist!  Shes a tough cookie is Cyn, but shes also female and cannot deny the gorgeousness that is Raphael, but refuses to give into him, knowing that countless women fall at his feet.... this brings the saying to mind "keep em mean, keep em keen"!!!!

I think the next book will show Raphael showing up again, but as a side story and not the main like he is here.

Second book is already picked up and being read....!

Houston, Texas-Cowboy boots, baseball and journeys to the stars . . . right? Wrong. Because Houston is also home to Jabril Karim, one of the eight powerful Vampire Lords who control all of North America. And as Private Investigator Cynthia Leighton will soon discover, not all Vampire Lords are created equal. For Jabril is the face of evil in the new world, a vampire who values no life but his own, who enslaves those he desires, steals whatever he covets and destroys anyone who stands in his way. Running from L.A. and its seductive Vampire Lord, Raphael, Cyn sees the Houston job as a welcome refuge, a place to get away and heal her broken heart. But Texas will be no vacation. For in Jabril Karim, Cyn will confront a true enemy, one who will go to any lengths to satisfy his lusts, enrich his coffers and expand his power. Fighting for the lives of two young sisters, Cyn's journey will take her through the streets of Houston and back to L.A., where the human police are determined to bring Raphael down for the murder of one of their own. But the danger doesn't end there. For Jabril has set his sights on Cyn, and he will stop at nothing to have her.

Wow! This is a totally different view of Vampire Lords....it was a brilliant read!

We're still with Cyn, and Raphael - still resisting each other.
Cyn gets a call from another Vampire Lord- Jabril, in Texas.  Shes already worked out that he wants her to annoy Raphael, but goes anyway, despite the bad feeling she keeps getting.

Jabril is the polar opposite of Raphael. Cruel, conceited, treats his people disgustingly, and believes hes invincible.

He hires Cyn to find Liz, a human girl of 17, who when she turns 18 inherits an incredible trust fund, and Jabril wants it.  He already has Mirabelle, her older sister, taken her trust fund and turned her.  He treats her terribly, she is petrified of Jabril.

Cyn is not a thick woman - we know that, far from it, and a tough cookie to boot.  She arranges to take Mirabelle, far from Jabril and into Raphaels territory.
This leads to oh so many problems...

And then theres finding Liz.....and convincing her its all OK....

Cyn rescued Raphaels sister, Alexandra, in the first book an Cyn is getting that bad feeling in her gut again....

And to top it, she knows that Jabril had already hired a PI - she was merely a way to annoy Raphael.

Not an easy feat to disobey a Lord.......heart stopping ending, and also a little happiness...

Brilliant second book, storyline is continuous from the first book, while smoothly moving across the Lords....

already on to book 3........

RAJMUND GREGOR is a vampire . . . and the undisputed Master of New York City. He bows to no one but his Sire, Krystof, who is the Vampire Lord for the entire Northeastern U.S. Based in Buffalo, NY, Krystof is an old vampire—-too old, it would seem, because he’s slowly losing his mind. Summoned back to Buffalo by his Sire, Rajmund finds his master out of touch and rapidly weakening. He knows the territory will crumble if something isn’t done, and he’s the only one of Krystof’s children strong enough to seize power. But there’s also the matter of some missing women and a rogue vampire who seems to be moving in for the kill.

SARAH STRATTON has a secret, one she’s never shared with anyone–—at least not anyone who knows her now, not even her good friend Cyn. It’s a secret that could destroy her carefully constructed life, but it’s one she may have to share with a vampire, if she’s going to save the lives of the missing women.

Third in the series, and im still loving it!

This one has links to Cyn, in regards that we follow Sarah, who has just moved to Buffalo for a new job....at least thats what she tells everyone...an herself.  Sarah has a secret that not even Cyn knows about. She thought the dreams had stopped, but theyve returned with a vengeance, leaving Sarah feeling helpless.

Cyn arranges a weekend in Manhatten for her and Sarah to do some shopping and partying.  Of course, Raphael is with her, and wherever Raphael goes, security follows too.

Sarah feels like second best when shes with Cyn, but Rajmund really doesnt think she is.....
From the moment he sets eyes on her, hes constantly thinking of her, but they both believe that when she returns to Buffalo, theyll never cross paths again....

...hmm!

Raj's sire and vampire lord Krystof summons Raj to (you guessed it) Buffalo, to help him with some trouble he is having.
Krystof is getting older in mind and not on the ball as he should.  Raj knows the day will come when he challenges his sire and become Vampire Lord of his territory.  Until then, he plays his power down, and co operates.

Girls have gone missing.  Theres a link to Vampires - specifically the Blood houses.  When Raj goes to the houses, hes appalled to see the state and handling of them.  Krystof has flexed none of his power to keep his territory in order, so Raj takes it upon himself to begin cleaning up the trouble....after all they will be his one day.

The police call to see a vamp representative...Raj....and just as when Sarah is in the station to try and find out if her dreams are related to the girls missing......of course, the police give nothing away and are shooing her out....until she sees Raj.....

Instant attraction there again, and even Raj feels its different than any other attraction he has experienced in his 200 years....
He fights this....he thinks he has a lot on his plate..the police, the problems, the investigation, getting ready to challenge his sire....he doesnt want Sarah as an extra "complication".

They work together to try and figure out what the missing girls have in common and to find the key to opening the case up.  Raj blows hot and cold and Sarah is confused.....

Can Raj figure out whats going on in this city before more girls disappear?
Can Sarah's dreams help find them?
Can Raj finally try to take over the territory?
And can they actually have a relationship?

Raj returns back to New York, leaving Sarah in Buffalo.........

Vampires In America 4 - Sophia

The Pacific Northwest . . . home to lush forests and constant rain, to lumberjacks and computer geeks, especially those of the vampire kind.

Sophia, beautiful and deadly, has spent the last hundred years dancing her way through the balmy nights and hot-blooded men of South America. But when her Sire sends an urgent summons, Sophia rushes home to Vancouver only to find he has disappeared, leaving nothing behind but three dead vampires and a letter with Sophia’s name on it.

Colin Murphy, a former Navy SEAL, came to the Northwest seeking a quiet place to heal the scars earned in more than a decade at war. But when someone starts killing local vampires and torturing their mates, Colin takes on the mantle of a warrior once again as he sets out to find the killers and do whatever it takes to stop them, even if that means hunting with vampires.

Following her Sire’s trail of death to a small town in northern Washington, Sophia unexpectedly discovers the heat of a South American night in Colin’s arms. But all too soon Sophia and Colin find themselves in a race to uncover the killers before the next dead vampire is Sophia herself

Another book, another Vampire Lord.

This one is no straight forward, just like the rest.  I love the fact that each book, though essentially has the same baseline plot, each book is totally different.

This has us back with Raphael and Cyn being involved, and quite heavily.

Sophia is summoned from her Sire, Lucien, who is the Vampire Lord of the canadian borders.  Sophia hasn't been in touch with Lucien for over half a century and realises this is not a good thing.

Upon arrival, Luciens lieutenant is less than welcoming, but the housemaid knows Lucien left Sophia a note in the safe.  This is what worries her.  Theres been murders.

Raphael during his day sleep feels 2 of his own children die, waking with tears running down his face and a worried Cyn.
They leave for Vancouver immediately.

For Sophia, she needs to find what has happened to her sire.  For Raphael, its to find whos doing these murders and wreak vengeance on them.

The local law enforcer, Colin,  is just an ex SEAL, who everyone in Coopers Rest turns to for any kind of policing help.  He discovers the first attack, which was a viscious attak on a vamps mate while he was in slumber during the day.
He joins with the Vamps to help find these monsters (which is ironic that the monsters are human - not the vamps).

Its revealed that he knew Sophia as a lover, and believed she died 10 years ago in an explosion. To say hes in total shock is an understatement.  Sophia is too in shock to see him....and tries to explain...but Colin is having a hard time getting his mind around all the info....

During a day Cyn, her bodyguard Robbie and Colin, go to the local (only) bar in the town..but its way too quiet....luckily they are armed to the back teeth...
The minute Colin opens the bar door, they are fired on from every side.  Cyn is badly injured....death door is opening.....Raphael is just about to wake from his day sleep, and he can feel her pain as Robbie and Colin rush to get her back to the compound.  This is the first time you get a good glimpse of what a pissed of powerful lord is like.  wow.  Dont want to be on the recieving end of it...

So, who is doing this brutal attacks? This includes raping, beating, murders, destruction....
Sophia is the most powerful of Luciens children....if they cant find Lucien, would she step into the Vampire Lords place? And would the children that surrounded Lucien accept her so easily?
Can Cyn be saved and be the whole person she was before?

I swear, this series is a complete joy to read, and yeah, im already on book 5!!

Vampires In America #5  Duncan

Washington, D.C. … capital of an empire. Powerful. Exhilarating. Corrupt. And in the shadows … vampires far older than the nation itself.

A power unto himself, Duncan has served at Raphael’s side for nearly the entire two hundred years of his existence. But long laid plans have finally borne fruit, and the time has come for Duncan to leave Raphael and tackle the greatest challenge of his life. He will face treacherous vampires and murderous humans. He will rock the halls of human power if necessary. But Washington, D.C. will be his.

Emma Duquet cares nothing for vampire politics. She just wants to find her missing roommate and best friend, Lacey. But Lacey’s been playing with vampires of a particularly dangerous kind, and Emma will have to deal with the new vampire in town if she’s going to find her friend.

Battling powerful enemies who will stop at nothing to keep their secrets, Duncan and Emma will dig beneath the corruption and depravity that is Washington, D.C. and uncover the most heinous conspiracy of all …

This one was a bit of a slower starter for me.  Maybe its because id become accustomed to Duncan being with Raphael and not a Lord in his own right...?
Anyway, Raphael thinks its a good time to overtake the Washington DC territory - and that includes getting rid of the Lord already there.  Duncan has no difficulties doing this- he is a VERY powerful vampire....now Vampire Lord.

Victor the previous Lord had been an abomination.  Cruelty, pimping, neglect...all the worst things that a Lord could be.  He held "parties" for select people who basically used an abused the girls at them.

Emma is Lacey's best friend - in fact her only person she has in the world.  When she goes missing, shes worried...then frantic.  Lacey had gone to one of those parties.

She is brave enough to face Duncan to find out what happened.  The pair work together to find the vamps AND humans responsible for all the depravity, including the death of Lacey.

The romance and spark between all the Lords and their potential mates is always the same - its fought from both sides, and then a huge release for them both, and a new need comes - lust isn't the only thing in the relationship.

Duncan now has to prove himself to the vamps in the territory, weed out traitors or rogue vamps, while finding out who he can trust, making a name for himself as a Lord and has the power to be in this position without being challenged.

Emma is being recognised as his "human".....he should leave her be to be safe.....she should stay away to be safe.....
But the monsters aren't always the things that go bump in the night......

After the slow start, a really enjoyable read, again!

Vampires In America The Vignettes Vol 1

From award-winning author D. B. Reynolds come nine stories of seduction and intrigue set in her Vampires in America universe. Note: This is a 122 page compilation of SHORT STORIES, not a full-length novel.

For the first time in print … The Vampire Vignettes From New Year’s Eve on the beaches of Malibu, to love in a penthouse over Manhattan, and a challenge fought on a snowy night in Montreal, Reynolds takes us behind the scenes with seven steamy Vignettes featuring her ultimate alpha Vampire Lords and their beautiful and independent mates.

And Never Before Published – Two brand new, full-length short stories. You Belong To Me follows Duncan and his mate Emma as they consolidate power in his new territory, while generating plenty of heat in private. And then it’s time for The Wedding, as readers join Rajmund and Sarah for their big weekend ... and Cyn’s girls-night-out bachelorette party. Unfortunately, some local kidnappers have other plans, and Cyn and Sarah will have to outwit their abductors before Raphael and Raj start hunting, and the entire wedding is ruined!

This was a very short book, with 6 short stories in it.

Its not a major part of the series, but it was fun to read about the wedding for Sarah and Raj, some situations between all the other vamp lords and their mates.

Mostly its one big sex scene in each story with a little info about the vamps background.

Fun and short to read, but youre not missing anything major in the series if you dont read it!

Vampires In America #6 Lucas

THE BADLANDS of SOUTH DAKOTA . . . haunting landscapes, legendary outlaws, and . . . vampires?

LUCAS DONLON, Vampire Lord, is one of the most powerful vampires in North America and beyond. Charming and irreverent to his friends and lovers, he enjoys everything about his life as a vampire. But when a neighboring lord makes the mistake of declaring war, he quickly discovers that Lucas is every bit as lethal as he is charming.

KATHRYN HUNTER doesn't care about powerful vampires or their wars. Her baby brother is missing and she will do anything to find him, even if it means going against both her FBI bosses and the local vampire lord. But Lucas Donlon has other plans for the lovely FBI agent who's landed on his doorstep.

Waging war against their enemies and each other, Lucas and Kathryn will risk everything to keep the most deadly vampire war in hundreds of years from engulfing every vampire, and human, in North America

Ahhhhh Lucas. Lucas, Lucas, Lucas.
If i had a choice of the lords it would be Lucas or Raphael.

Lucas is Raphaels child although its not publicised- a hidden weapon to be used when need to.

He is the Lord of the Plains and is on the verge of war with the Lord of the next territory, who has been pushing his luck for far too long an needs to be dealt with...which throughout the book blows into a full blown bloody war done vampire style.

Kathryn is an FBI agent, based in Chicago, but her baby brother goes missing while going on a trek.  Hes a pro at trekking and photography and always touches base with Kathryn....but for the last 10 days theres been nothing.  Dan is Kathryn's only family.  She's desperate to find him.  She takes a week "vacation" and heads up to the Plains to try an track him down.

The rangers office remembers him, but doesn't know where he is, the sheriff knows less, but has a feeling vamps are involved...so that's exactly where Kathryn ends up fining herself...on Lucas's ranch (with horses and everything!).

Once more, instant attraction which they both try to fight, while Lucas is trying to concentrate on the brewing war and Kathryn trying to find her brother.

A visit to the only blood house is on the cards, where the bar tender remembers Dan very well, giving an indication of a potential hook up....but he promises to find him if he can....so is he telling the truth or trying to throw them off the track?

Lucas promises Kathryn he will find him, and as the two work closely together, the inevitable happens....
But Kathryn lives in another Lords territory and she doesn't want to leave her career that she has built up for herself.
Lucas cannot go into another Lords territory....so Kathryn goes....Lucas stays....

Will they give in to the strong bond they seemed to have formed?
Where the heck is Dan??
An most importantly of all, can a full blown war be prevented by simply taking out the Lord of the Midwest?

brilliant book, again. Would REALLY love a Lucas in my life!!!

Vampires In America #7 Aden

She was seeking revenge. What she found was a vampire who swept her into the darkest depths of passion.

Chicago, Illinois... the windy city. Home to football greats, dinosaurs named Sue, and, when the sun goes down... powerful vampires battling for the right to rule the city and beyond.

Born into slavery, Aden is one of the most powerful vampires in North America, waging war on others of his kind in a struggle to become the next Lord of the Midwest. But in the midst of the deadliest fight of his long life, the ghosts of his past have come back to haunt him. Slavery still exists, and Aden is hellbent on destroying it and the vampires who profit from it.

Sidonie Reid is an investigative reporter in pursuit of the biggest story of her career, until that story costs the life of a friend and Sid realizes she has to do much more than write about it. Intent on bringing down the vampires and their slave network, Sid gains entry to the highest levels of vampire society, where she finds herself confronting the raw sexuality that is Aden.

Caught up in a dark passion that neither can resist, Aden and Sidonie join forces, determined to defeat the old regime and everything it stands for. The dangers are beyond calculation, but the ultimate reward is worth the risk. If they survive...

Hm. This was written in a similar style, but not with the same emphasis on the softer side of a vampire.  If anything, Aden kinda scared me!  He is cold, distant, has a fondness for S&M and the such....his character is well written if that's the impression to be given.

What Aden was good at was being a vamp.

Since Lucas destroyed the previous Lord of the Mid West there is an opening for a Lord to replace him.  Aden is the front runner.  He knows it. His enemies know it.  His children know it.  He just has to do it.  He has a darker power than the other vamps, like Duncan was very empathic....Aden gains power from those who die.

Sidonie is a journalist.  for the last year shes been "hunting" for the exact location and all the other Intel to reveal who and where a slave house is being run by Vamps.  Her friend was killed by the ones who run it.  And its not just Vamps.

She manages to wangle an invitation to a vamp only event to meet Aden - to ask him what hes going to do about the slavery.  He seems far from interested....altho his first thoughts of her was about how her pale skin would look good with a quick whip of his flail....not the way the other Lords thought of their potential hook ups.

Aden begins to clean up the territory....even before he is named Lord.  He faces challengers, minions, and gain trust from Klemens old children...

he needs to go to see Lucas for the test of becoming the Lord....
why does he have such a hatred for the slave trade?
His trust issues are massive....how on earth can Sidonie get him to trust her?
And the biggest question....can Aden actually become the Lord? Will he be accepted?

Sad this is the last book of the series for now, and am looking forward to the next one to be released....the epilogue left it open and interesting!
