What I'm Reading: "Amaranthine" Series by Joleene Naylor

As part of a blog tour im reviewing the fifth book in this series, but i needed to read the first four before i could give a true review of that one, so im going to be reviewing it in this section.

The first book is called "Shades of Grey"

BLURB:

Whatever killed Patrick wasn’t human, but if it wasn’t an animal what else could it be? What else is there to be?
Katelina is about to find out that if you turn over the rock of reality and look underneath it you’ll find things that hide in the shadows away from the light. Things you don’t want to see. Blood drinking monsters called vampires.
But what do you do when the vampire happens to be so beautiful you can’t stop looking at him? Or when he’s your only hope against a mob of monsters that think you’ve wronged them? Sure, maybe he saved your life, but how can you trust – really trust – someone who isn’t even human?
Katelina has no choice. Hunted by a coven of vampires, she has to rely on Jorick to help her escape. But no matter how far they run death chases them like a shadow until their only alternative is to turn around and fight.
Trapped between light and dark, the pair must travel down a path of mystery and terror as their pasts are slowly revealed and their passions ignite.  To survive, the two allies must join in an ancient power-struggle that could very well decide their futures and the fate of the vampire covens…
The first exciting book in the Amaranthine series is a world of  violence, obsession, betrayal and, most of all, vampires.

This book calls to me alot as i love Vamps, and im looking forward to reading and reviewing the series!

3rd May 2013
So, i finished the first book last night.

I wont lie, it was quite a hard book to get into.  But once you do get into it, its a good book!  The author took alot of time to try to describe each situation, but to a point there was almost too many of the "this felt like this" rather than just saying "it felt like this".  Thats probably the only niggly bit about the books.

It paints Vampires in a very different light than what most writers are doing at the moment.  No Sparkling, No bagged blood, and therye still hiding from the Human race.
It shows a cruel streak that runs through the majority, but also showing that they ARE capable of friendships, relationships and families.

You were kind of thrown into the story after the first few pages.  Not a bad thing.  But it didnt give you a chance to get to know the main character Katerina, so you had mixed feelings about her.  Alot of the time i was thinking "why?" but by the end of the book, i liked her and also the other main character Jorick.

I think theres alot we dont know, and they will be explored in later books.

if you have the concentration to get through the first few chapters then i think  you would like it.  There are moments that shock you, really shock you and make you sit with your jaw dropped.

The storyline was consistent, and like i say, it was a hard book to get into, but once you do and you grasp the basics, its much easier to read, and im looking forward to getting into the next one!

Book 2 -Legacy of Ghosts

After the events of Shades of Gray, Katelina and Jorick seek peace but it's hard to come by. Kateesha plans to fight the same battle as Jorick's fledgling, but a common enemy isn't enough to overcome past betrayals. Drawn into a deathly conflict, Jorick and Katelina must learn to overcome old regrets, or risk loosing their future to the ghosts of their past.

As always, Happy Reading!!
